Not Your Love, But His Love!
t's been a busy few months for me, as I've been all over North Texas, Houston and back. In all the places I've been, we've had good services. While in Jefferson, Texas for the Route 49 Biker Rally the Lord did a miracle in protecting us during the service. One hour after we all left the large tent we were in collapsed to the ground. A few weeks later I was in Tyler, TX for the opening series at Swan MX Raceway, then back to Jefferson for the service at Diamond Don's Vintage National. There was good attendance during each meeting and the Lord blessed us with His word. I've also started a men's weekly Bible Study in my hometown, so I'm staying busy sharing the Good News!
Fox Racing flew my son Jonathan and I to California for the 1977 Fox MX re-union. It was great seeing Geoff and Bob Fox, founders Fox Racing Corp. Seeing what the sons Pete and Greg have done with the company is impressive. Spending time with my former mechanic Cliff White and fellow racers Mark Barnett and Pat Richter was great fun. Seeing many old friends and making new ones was also a thrill. We really enjoyed it!
God has been pointing out to me the most important thing to understand about life over the last few months. Our questions range from, why do things go the way they do, or why did this or that happen in my life? These are questions we all have, but it really gets down to one thing that all human beings must understand. Without this realization or understanding, we're pretty much on our own. I pray this encourages you greatly.
In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
— 1 John 4:10
Not Your Love, But His Love!
The sum total of the law is to love God with all your heart, all your soul and all your mind (Matthew 22:37-40). But let me ask you this: Has anybody ever been able to love the Lord with all his heart, all his soul, all his mind and all his strength?
The answer is obvious. Not a single person has been able to do that. And God knew all the while that under the law, no one could love Him that perfectly. So do you know what He did? He sent His Son Jesus. When He did that, He was effectively saying this to us: "I know that you can't love Me perfectly, so watch Me now. I will love you with all My heart, all My soul, all My mind and all My strength." And He stretched His arms wide and died for us!
My friend, take time to get this into your heart today: The cross is not a demonstration of our perfect love and devotion to God. The cross is God's demonstration of His perfect love, His perfect devotion and His perfect grace (unmerited favor) toward us today. Let me give you the Bible's definition of love to make this even clearer for you:
"In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation (the atoning sacrifice and payment) for all of our sins."
That's the emphasis of the new covenant of grace (unmerited favor)—His love for us, not our love for Him. And when we focus on His love for us, we end up loving Him and others effortlessly! It's easy to love the unlovely when our focus is on His love for us.
Our whole character and attitude changes when we freely receive God's love in our life. So many are loaded down with guilt and weight of sin that holds them back from the joy of the Lord and the joy of life.
One must be willing to let go and know, even while being sinners Christ died for us. How much more now that you're His child will He direct and establish your ways. He is always there to love you, whatever giant is faced.
Call upon Jesus and trust Him today.
